Universal computation
With this title I don't mean ubiquitous computing (though that is where my head is, of late) but the actual computational capabilities of the universe. This post is a synopsis of one experiment demonstrating the type of questions posed by universal computation, but there are many others. Plunge down to where the "there" isn't necessarily there, where particle interaction is less about pool balls and more about waveforms. How does the information in those waves interact? What is the structure that computes interference and coherence?
